Full Extent of Indonesia Disaster Slowly Revealed
Sun Jan 2, 2005 01:53 AM ET

By Dean Yates and Tomi Soetjipto

BANDA ACEH, Indonesia (Reuters) - Desperate survivors huddle in clearings without food or shelter above the water line all along the tsunami-ravaged coast of Indonesia's Aceh province, and corpses float as far as 20 miles out to sea.

A week after being swamped by giant waves, water is only just beginning to drain off parts of the provincial capital, Banda Aceh, revealing the full extent of the horrific destruction and yet more bodies to count.

"I've never seen anything like this. We've seen bodies 20 miles out to sea. You just cannot describe it," said Capt. Larry Burt, commander of a helicopter air wing on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln parked off the Sumatra coast.

"Above the water line, there are people standing there waving flags trying to signal us. There are so many, you just can't stop for all of them," he told Reuters after a mission down the west coast, which bore the brunt of the Dec. 26 quake and tsunami.

1. Ok, ok.
We'll look into it once the president gets that brush cleared in Crawford.

5. Well I think some one got to Bush to point out something
To put the AL off this coast has got to be great for us. Our men are so American that most will win hearts and minds and this is a thing they should be doing. My husband did this in the 50's after an EQ to help people. The marines just moved on to an Island and helped the people for months. Some times big corp. just can not get the money and we should help people, We use most of the goods in this world as it is.This will do more than anything we have done in Iraq, for our way of life. I wonder who finally got to Bush on this. Power? Or the man from the UN making the little dig?

6. Yes.
I wonder the same thing -- for more than one perio of his "presidency."

Sometimes I think he is governed by Cheney, but there are others that just aren't clear.

7. Must have been the UN guy
making the little dig! So far, Japan is the biggest donor, and Australia is doing the most for Aceh.

2. Unbelievable.
My SO's father has Alzheimer's. He cannot remember the day of the week, can't recognize his grown children, and has lost words from his vocabulary completely. Tonight we were sitting in the car, waiting for SO to come out of the coffee shop, and to make conversation with him (I try to keep his mind active) I asked him about a few assorted things, to which he replied "uh-huh" which means, I have no idea what you're talking about. I look over and saw the newspaper machine-thingy out the window and it reminded me of the tsunami so I asked him about that. He knew exactly what I was talking about- my SO was explaining the story to him the other day, and he hears the news on tv and it's also discussed at his adult day care center. He remembered the tsunami, and he said "Oh my God, those poor people". I couldn't believe it. The man can't remember his own name, but the deaths of 100,000+ people stayed with him and we talked about it the whole ride home.

3. Oh wow! I think that story is amazing!
Makes me think there are many more things traditional medicine does not know about Alzheimer's disease.

4. it is amazing--sometimes people with Alzheimer's disease can have such a
clear mind. I once visited a family whose matriarch was in some advanced stage of the illness. She had been a seamtress before Alzheimer's stole her mind. As I was leaving and her husband walked her to the door with him so they could say goodbye, she was unable to utter a word but saw that the collar on my shirt was crooked and put out her hand to straighten my collar before i left. the experience still stays with me. your SO's father had a very clear mind about an entire people's suffering and i can only imagine how out of his own suffering, his understanding about other people's suffering must have made you feel. They are amazing!

is a chance that something good might come of it....

http://www.the7thfire.com/Alzheimers.htm
A person in the Alzheimer's grade #3 stage was non-communicative and in the Massachusetts General Hospital. After taking Pycnogenol® he was able to walk down the halls without shuffling. He was able to recognize people, read papers, and check mail in the mailbox when he would go home. He sorted the mail, one stack for him and one for her. His wife said he couldn't tell the difference between his and her mail before taking Pycnogenol®. One day he took the car keys and left the house and drove the car for the first time in four years. His wife panicked when she discovered he had taken the car and subsequently called the police. They suspected he drove to the bank.

When the police arrived at the bank, they found him and the car. He had been cashing a check and doing other transactions. This is what he had done almost daily before the Alzheimer's had affected him.
Both he and his wife are taking Pycnogenol® and raving about it. Their friends have all seen the remarkable results and now want to take it for themselves. Dr. Lamar Rosquist, DC

Can Curcumin Prevent Alzheimer's Disease?
By John C. Martin

Curcumin has long been prized in traditional Chinese and Indian medicine as a natural remedy for a variety of ailments. In modern research laboratories, curcumin’s ability to scavenge free radicals and suppress inflammatory cytokines has impressed scientists who are seeking ways to prevent and treat Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.
