LA Times: Yanukovich Steps Down as Premier
KIEV, Ukraine — Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich, yielding to a parliamentary vote of no confidence, resigned Friday but said he would continue a legal effort to overturn results showing he lost Ukraine's recent presidential election.

He acknowledged, however, that he held little hope his appeals would succeed.

"There is no point in staying on as prime minister," Yanukovich said in a nationally televised New Year's address. "The political role of the Yanukovich government as a factor of stability in the past year is all but exhausted. I formally announce my resignation."

Yanukovich had been able to formally keep his post because he took a vacation to campaign, and because outgoing President Leonid D. Kuchma had not accepted parliament's early December vote.

3. Hahaha, it took me like... three minutes to get that.
I'm either really stupid, or really tired. Hoping it's the latter.

..."Look at Iraq. Everybody there has assault weapons and they've been successful in holding off a much more powerful occupying force. I think that's a model we could all learn a lot from." --- Stephan Colbert

Is this a suggestion that "everyone" in America be allowed to own assault weapons? That would most definitely bring security and order into the streets of America similar to what is now in Rwanda, The Sudan and Chechnya. I can imagine that the first day of citizen militia rearming would be a field day in hell for the followers of Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, anti-abortion groups, homophobiacs and gay bashers, the Aryan Nations, white supremacists and the countless other fringe militant hate groups would have with liberals and minority groups across this country. The death toll from last weekend's tsunami would pale in comparison.
