French foreign minister: Iraqis should rule themselves in a month
PARIS, Sept. 12 — France's foreign minister said in a newspaper piece published Friday that a provisional Iraqi government should be set up in a month and a draft constitution should be ready by the end of the year.

Iraq also should hold elections next spring, Dominique de Villepin wrote in the Le Monde newspaper.

The piece is a response to a U.S. draft resolution on Iraq's future now before the U.N. Security Council. The United States, hoping its allies will provide troops and money in the face of continued attacks and mounting costs in Iraq, has proposed a resolution creating a multinational force under a unified U.N. command with an American commander.

1. That is loopy
Self rule is still many months away. We can be doing more to encourage it, but really, it takes a long time to get a brand new democracy up and running.

5. Self rule is way more important than democracy.
BushCo is using this 'establishing democracy' meme as a smokescreen to obscure their conquest and plundering of Iraq. Whatever 'democracy' turns out to mean to the Iraqis may very well be unrecognizable by us. What's important is that it is their country to run, not our colony to administer.
