LAT: At FBI, Help Is Most Wanted (agents leaving in droves)
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-fbi13dec13,0,6541204.story?coll=la-home-headlines

Key players are fleeing for the private sector and other agencies in droves, even as the bureau struggles to meet post-9/11 standards.

By Richard B. Schmitt, Times Staff Writer
WASHINGTON -- The rapid turnover of top-level managers and highly trained specialists since Sept. 11, 2001, is causing disorder within the FBI and undercutting its efforts to meet the mandate of Congress to expand its intelligence and counterterrorism capabilities dramatically.

Its new intelligence arm, which is to form the core of a transformed FBI, is losing dozens of analysts who are supposed to connect the dots to protect the country from another terrorist attack.

 (snip)

Great. More massive failure by Bushco.

3. You are correct and Welcome to DU
The agents leaving KNOW what's coming and
they want NO part of it.
The bad news is, there are DROVES of brown shirted
jack boots who do. They call themselves "Christians"
and can't wait to kill for Christ.

17. The rise of the new reich, the 4th Reich, the new regime... get ready for
camps, internment, staged elections, staged terror to cow the masses, nationalism, unjustified invasions and fake wars, loss of personal rights, civil rights, civil unrest; armbands, trains rattling slowly down the tracks filled with detainees, going off to destinations unknown.

Give it 15 or 20 years...

22. We already have all that now!
Gitmo, Abu Ghraib, "secret" camps in Pakistan, South America, and who knows where else....

The WH saying that they can arrest anybody for anything and keep them forever without charging them....

Staged elections, electronic voting....

nationalism and staged terror and loss of personal rights....

unjustified invasions....

27. More immediately, we can foresee...
...the FBI and other security apparatuses will become jobs programs for the Bush youth. Patronage will give many of them the chance to hunt down "terrorists" and "traitors." (The extreme shortage of the former will provoke the need for inventing surpluses of the latter.)

As Susan Sontag warned in 2001, we are probably one terrorist attack shy of martial law. But other events, scarcely glimpsed four years ago, might also trigger crackdowns. Economic crises; defeat in Iraq; mass foreign exodus in investment; collapse of the housing market; you name it.

9/11 revealed how much the new American repression was merely waiting for its hour. In the months and years ahead, look for institutional rage to rise in parallel to the crumbling of right wing verities. Mailer once observed, "A modern democracy is a tyranny whose borders are undefined." I have a bad feeling ours will be revealed.

28. Read the Patriot Act 2
THAT's what coming.
There are good people who have worked in
intelligence for years.
They did not spend their lives in the field
to now engage in activities that until now,
victimized their fellow citizens and destroy
Constitutional rights.
READ the Patriot Act 2 and ask yourself
if you would be willing to enforce what is in it
when dealing with a fellow citizen.
I know I couldn't.

19. Or they are moving to private security firms...
because they could do more nasty stuff with less accountibility that way? Kinda like the "security" firms doing black-ops in Iraq.

5. Thanks for the post and link... amazing shrub doesn't think the CIA...
is as important as his GOP dedicated FBI, isn't it.
(snip from your LA Times article):

Indeed, until very recently, the FBI was losing nearly as many analysts to attrition and other causes as it had managed to hire with the post-Sept. 11 infusion of cash from Congress.

The turnover has led to a little-noted provision in the 2005 spending bill that President Bush signed Wednesday. It authorizes Mueller to offer unusually fat retention bonuses to key employees who might be threatening to leave.
(end of snip)

I find the above astounding -- while at the same time he is trying to get rid of any CIA staff that is not in agreement with the shrub policies and directives. Try to put more money to retain GOP FBI agents, but get rid of any CIA agent not living in the shrub bubble.

Perhaps the ones leaving the FBI are not necessarily agreeing with shrub anymore and want out. He needs to offer lucrative incentives to keep the ones that live in his bubble (glass house).

Our security is fading no doubt. They're either running from shrub or shrub is booting them if they are not his robots 100% (both instances occuring in FBI and CIA).

9. Maybe he should try out his favorite little 'stop loss' program ...
that rummy is using on the military to keep them from leaving? 'You WILL not be allowed to resign service for the good of , um - cause we say you can't quit!'

8. yeah, it's all do-it-yourself now.
Do it yourself: Food protection, environmental protection, health care, drug protection, and now national security protection.

Our government no longer functions in any way to protect us. We're on our own.

18. This is what the republicans WANT. Less people dependent on government,
but higher taxes, so they can loot and pillage it without accountability.

Bush wants a republican FBI and a republican CIA where party loyalty comes before patriotism, honor, and integrity.

30. This Regime is coming apart at the seams
So the only question is when Bush will be assasinated. In any country it works the same way. When a Regime is this far gone it's not question of if the leader will be killed, only of when it will happen.

And there's plenty of photos of President Bush over the last several months where you can see that he's quite aware he could be offed at any time. This is simply political reality.

31. Makes me think of some weird saying:
"What if they held a war and nobody showed up?"

as much as i feel the sane are leaving and the reich is moving in, it gives me hope knowing that 1/2 of america is just not enough of america to keep america running. if we just refused to cooperate the whole thing comes screeching to a halt. these FBI and CIA, as shady and scary some of them have been, now need our support because they are giving the canary in the mine shaft warning that bad nasty stuff is coming this way. if we got serious about 'opting out' then all their plans would falter. there's just not enough people to operate a nation this big if the rejections were 1/2 of america.

now if we can create a monthly 'sick out' where we slowly grind the machine down to a halt. i propose spacing out your sick leave throughout the year (if you can) and just not show up for work on the 2nd of each month (squish it next to a weekend if necessary for a fun 3 day weekend). gives an opportunity to relax and rejuvinate at least once a month, enjoy hard earned sick leave/paid vacation, savor america before it all disappears (i really am going to miss the america of my memories...), and slow down the ravenous machine. it'd be a nice opportunity to savor the local businesses, enjoy the local sites, appreciate a slower pace of life with family. (but if it puts your livelihood in danger to take your legally protected days off, then don't do it. i know there's some industries, like IT, that demand slave labor hours with no option but to work. i remember what it's like. :) )
