Hawks readying to do battle with North Korea
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inter Press Service Thursday 25th November, 2004

The coalition of foreign-policy hawks that promoted the 2003 invasion of Iraq is pressing US President George W Bush to adopt a more coercive policy toward North Korea, despite strong opposition from China and South Korea.

By most accounts, North Korea ranked high in bilateral talks between Bush and Northeast Asian leaders, including Chinese President Hu Jintao, at the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Santiago, Chile, this past weekend, although the final communique did not address the issue.

This has to be the most stupidest thing the Bush Regime is doing!!!

China encroaching on Korea??? What is really going on here???

1. Economic sanctions...
That would only serve to penalize a long-suffering population even more, all so John Bolton can swing his dick.

Fantastic.

2. Nuclear war
if Bush continues his stupid policies, I predict we'll have one of these before Thanksgiving rolls around next year.

3. Anything military is stupid
Engaging in anything that has the distict taste of possible military action in North Korea is about as foolish as it is possible to be. Yes NK is small, but it has a large military, and if backed into a corner it can do nasty things indeed. They have, for instance, masses of fixed artillery that can quite happily shell Seoul, let alone nuclear capability.

7. I think Bush would care
If anyone actually managed to point out to him the value of the Korean (and Japanese) economy, and the chaos it would cause on world financial markets were, say Seoul or worse still Tokyo to get leveled. NK has the capacity to do either of those.

9. So why were the tanks pulled?
Edited on Thu Nov-25-04 09:59 PM by mmonk
If that is the strategy, then why move armour away from there to Iraq? Why not bring them into Iraq from somewhere else?

15. I don't see Korea being a ground war.
I see it being a :nuke: :nuke: :nuke: war.

Moving armour out makes a strategic air war more likely, IMHO.

know if we can even manage that atm. Seems like we are all out of the "smart" bombs. It would be complete folly to start another war.

Athens' Syracuse Expedition

http://campus.northpark.edu/history/WebChron/Mediterranean/Syracuse.CP.html

It makes no difference who we attack first because
it will be the last attack we can afford.
Make it a good one 'cause everyone is ready.

And we were right: The US has lost
20802 heavily wounded troops(at least)
So the 3500 killed is closer to the truth as well.

U.S. struggles to find troops for Iraq, Afghanistan

5,000 to 7,000 troops- the minimum number needed to
allow them to pursue the offensive against the insurgents in
the wake of the taking of Fallujah(IRR Resistance
still controls 60% w/ heavy fighting ).

19. I'm sure there are elements in Japan that look forward
...to this. They believe in the anti unification strategy. Korea must remain divided. The truth is that the US and Japan can't see beyond Kim Jong Il. They reinforce his position by their actions.

What will the US and Japan do if Korea is unified? The US loses its foothold on the mainland. The US Japanese military alliance loses focus and a major new economic power (self sufficient in nuclear energy) arises to compete if not dominate in NE Asia.

22. That would be the prelude of WW III most likely
It would be very interesting to see how China reacts this time should US invade N. Korea.

My guess is initially they won't do anything until much later the situation changes. That's when all the hell breaks loose.

Four more Wars!

...to positions of entry to N.Korea as soon as the first strikes occur.

We are already in the prelude to WWIII. Can the neo fascist regime can limit the war to Asia?

13. This is the meat of the article
"Washington should also ready 'the non-diplomatic instruments for North Korean threat reduction,' he wrote, arguing that preparing for the deliberate use of such options - presumably an economic embargo or even military strikes - 'will actually increase the probability of a diplomatic success'."

or more simply:

"military strikes - 'will actually increase the probability of a diplomatic success'."
