When a TV Talking Head Becomes a Talking Body (naked news anchor)

Last week, a Cleveland news anchor, Sharon Reed, was caught on camera stripping nude and joining a gaggle of other people in the altogether. A year ago, an anchor at another Ohio station, Catherine Bosley of WKBN in Youngstown, resigned after participating partly nude in a wet T-shirt contest that ended up on the Web.

But Ms. Reed need not fear for her job. The cameras that caught her shimmying out of her bra for a nude photography installation belonged to her employer - WOIO-TV, a CBS affiliate - which rode her first-person account of a photo shoot of public nudity to a ratings triumph.

Whether it was seen as a television first or as a last straw, the naked anchor story had legs, along with a few other body parts not generally seen on the evening news. It has now become part of a
recent pantheon of television transgressions. On the same night,

ABC's "Monday Night Football" showed what seemed to be a naked Nicolette Sheridan from "Desperate Housewives," the network's new hit series, jumping into the arms of a fully uniformed National Football League player. And CBS has been slapped with a record fine of $550,000 by the Federal Communications Commission for broadcasting Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" during the February Super Bowl. The network is contesting the fine.

WOIO will most likely elude an F.C.C. penalty because the station broadcast advisories, along with plenty of promotional spots, before the report ran and followed commission rules that prohibit the broadcast of indecent materials from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

I never understand the point of these naked demonstrations. Who is it supposed to convince. Anyone that agrees with the cause is already on board. Anyone that has not heard of it looks at the participants and says they are nuts...or in this case, boobs.

In HOuston, a tv news person who is pregnant was supposed to have her ultrasound and reveal the sex of her baby on the air. At least, that's what I gathered from the teaser.

And these people wonder why they are stalked, after they've invited everyone into their bedrooms?

who the hell cares? Wasn't like she was reading the news and decided to strip. She was doing something independent of her job. Oh yeah...we're supposed to spy on each other and freak out if anyone does anything immoral like show their body off...because it's nasty and dirty and evil.

Better cover your kids eyes during that naked picture...protect the eyes so they can see the latest Arney Blow em up Pic. All that nudity is getting in the way of good ol American Violence.

but an entertainment type reporter on a tabloid style TV n"News" program....

You know, the ones that read headlines instead of sentances....

that use faux style graphics to grab your attention...

That are so cheesy I turn immediately to th Daily Show to watch some real news......

I happen to catch the glimpse simply because the Daily show had on Kay Baily Hutchinson and I have absolutely no interest in anything that woman could possibly say....


BTW, she is the bustiest woman I have ever seen on a news show and she goes out of her way to wear low cut, tight fitting, cleavage showing tops that remind me of the old pinups from the 50's.....

The artist has photographed installations of nudes in public places all over the world. Maybe he is trying to get people to lighten up, even just a little by exposing them to--*gasp*--the sight of nudes.

Ya know, like "God-made" human bodies?

Sheesh, talk about much ado about nothing--whoever finds this worthy of a second thought has weird personal issues.

Normally I'd call this newswhoring, but if you look at the body language in the photo where she's walking towards the other women, she looks very confident, especially compared to the last one in line. It doesn't look like anything she had to be strongly persuaded to do.

19. i think these 'incidents' are designed

to test to what extent the issue of moral values has taken hold in the RW base, to see what the level of outrage is.

They (a neocon minority in and around the government) tried pushing those issues during the Clinton era, resulting in many Repubs voting for Clinton...
but they just don't give up.

20. Normally I'd say, if you've got it, flaunt it. but in this case...

I'm bothered by the fact it was male producers who suggested a female anchor do this. why did it have to be the woman doing this? It was merely a public nudity installation -- nothing said about having to be all women. Why couldn't they ask one of the male anchors to do it? something about the fact it's males asking a black female to do this gives me the heeby jeebies.
