White House Criticizes High Court Appeal (``wholly unjustified'')
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Bush administration on Wednesday urged the Supreme Court not to rush a decision in an extraordinary appeal about the government's plans for military trials for foreign terror suspects.

The government also criticized the appeal, filed this week by lawyers for a man facing a military trial, Salim Ahmed Hamdan. The Yemeni was a driver for Osama bin Laden, but has denied supporting terrorism.

The high court had been asked to decide by next week whether to hear Hamdan's case, which raises questions about government power to prosecute wartime prisoners.

The government's top Supreme Court lawyer, Paul Clement, said in a court filing that Hamdan's appeal is ``wholly unjustified'' and that the court should not speed up consideration of it.

8. Back in the days
when the US was a republic, there was a wise Democrat named Bill "Bubba" Clinton. He was the best prez the US has seen since FDR. He made the world brighter and better. Until one day, the evil Dark Empire of Republcans, also known as the Christian Fundamentalists, took over the awesome power of Clinton and weilded it in its evil, evil plans... and it continues to this day.

12. How dare they
appeal in the first place? Who gave them permission? How dare the USSC consider an appeal in a timely fashion? Don't they know who signs their paychecks? What? He doesn't? :wtf:

Where are Ashcroft and Cheney? It may be time to hold a secret meeting in a secret location. Danger, Danger, Danger, etc...

13. this issue is one where the Supreme Court does not listen to Bush
Edited on Thu Nov-25-04 02:54 AM by Zensea
Bush has already lost big time on these cases. 8-1 on one of the Guantanomo cases, for example which established the precedent.(the 1 in that case was guess who?? --- Clarence Thomas)
The various lawyers on behalf of these plaintiffs know their stuff.

What you are seeing in this urging by the Bush administration is that they are afraid they are going to lose another one.

14. Maybe some of the conservative Justices of the SCOTUS are still
believers in the Constitution and are loyal to the USA and have finally recognized George the War Pig for the total despot that he is.

15. This appeal would not have been necessary had SCOTUS,...
,...established more clear constitutional guidelines in previous two appeals which were,...well, a LOT of hot air. The Justices really did not want to go there until forced to,...preferably AFTER the heat of political battle. If they end up establishing something weaker than that pertaining to state-sponsored warring,...ugh,...it would add to these dark times.
