Bush's slapdown for Blair on climate change

By Geoffrey Lean and Francis Elliott
21 November 2004

President Bush has reprimanded Tony Blair for sounding the alarm over global warming and pressing for international action to combat it, senior Washington sources say.

They report that the White House has objected to the Prime Minister placing the issue at the top of the agenda when he heads the G8 group of the world's most powerful nations next year, and to the strong tone of his recent speeches warning of climate change.

Mr Blair is widely seen as the leader best placed to bring the President into serious international negotiation on how to tackle the problem, which he has described as "very, very critical indeed".

This follows a U-turn by Greenpeace, which last week withdrew its longstanding support for the Prime Minister's climate policies saying that he "can no longer be given the benefit of the doubt" and "cannot be trusted to resist industry lobbying."

1. Newspeak
Let us remember that the current Administration uses the term, "climate change" which is only a euphimism for GLOBAL WARMING.

Obviously, one sounds kind of okay and the other has very serious implications.

2. It's not just the Bush admin
For instance, the IPCC - Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Since it's not just about an average temperature increase - it's about things that might drive, like increased or decreased rainfall, or even local cooling, eg what could happen if the North Atlantic Conveyor shut down.

3. It's only because * is so concerned about American jobs....
This is hilarious.

<snip>
The White House said last week that "President Bush strongly opposes any treaty or policy that would cause the loss of a single American job".

</snip>

He feels our pain.

Right.

11. Yeah, all that OUTSOURCING has helped the American
worker. :eyes:

Ask BP; they've implemented kyoto at all their plants, and saved an average of $1.2 million per year AT EACH FACILITY without losing a SINGLE job (they actually hired a few experts to do it).

It's all about defeating liberalism to those monsters. The environment is important to us, so they work at destroying it. Bring on the Rapture!

6. Bu$h, and the republican party, are a threat to humankind.
They consistently overturn the environmental policies, enacted by Democrats, which could save the planet.

I hope Bu$h and the republicans are the first to choke on the poisons that they have caused to be released on our planet.

15. Bad Tony! Bad doggie!
You shouldn't show Daddy Bush up like that! Bad doggie!

My God, it's one step short of an S&M video, the relationship between Bush and Blair.
