CIA staff told to avoid politics
Attention! Present Lips and Pucker!

CIA staff told to avoid politics
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4022883.stm
New CIA director Porter Goss is proving controversial
The head of the CIA has told its employees that they must not "identify with, support or champion opposition" to the Bush administration.

The email to staff by Director Porter Goss, a former Republican congressman, has been seized on by critics.

--snip---

Mr Goss' email, which was itself leaked to several US newspapers, said: "We support the administration and its policies in our work.

"As agency employees we do not identify with, support, or champion opposition to the administration or its policies.

"We do not make policy, though we do inform those who make it. We avoid political involvement, especially political partisanship.

"We provide the intelligence as we see it - and let the facts alone speak to the policymaker."

It also reminded CIA employees of their "oath of secrecy".

----snip---

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said some people had "misconstrued" the email.

"He was not talking about advocacy one way or the other."

2. The hard working people (yes there are some)...
At the CIA do not owe any loyalty to Shrub and this administration. He pissed off every decent person in the CIA when he outed an agent over a personal vendetta.

5. Seems contradictory
I mean, this is an INTELLIGENCE agency. They should be completely bipartisan. If that means NOT supporting the "administration and it's policies", then that is what must be done. I think forcing them to support *, and then telling them to not be partisan is completely contradictory.

6. No, not bipartisan. Apolitical. Professional. Not connected to any party
bipartisan implies party politics, making peace on some issues.

We need cold, rational, insightful intel, not stovepipes, not decisions supported by cherry-picking only preferential facts.

9. Well Scotty excuse me but you are full of crap as usual. It is a little
disingeneous to say "He was not talking about advocacy one way or the other." What part of "We support the administration and its policies in our work." don't you understand?

10. I'm reminded of Full Metal Jacket
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0093058/quotes

Pogue Colonel: Whose side are you on, son?
Private Joker: Our side, sir.
Pogue Colonel: Don't you love your country?
Private Joker: Yes, sir.
Pogue Colonel: Then how about getting with the program? Why don't you jump on the team and come on in for the big win?
Private Joker: Yes, sir.
Pogue Colonel: Son, all I've ever asked of my marines is that they obey my orders as they would the word of God. We are here to help the Vietnamese, because inside every gook there is an American trying to get out. It's a hardball world, son. We've gotta keep our heads until this peace craze blows over.
