during Katrina were vilified because they stayed, but if the storm had come in on Sept. 4th instead of Aug. 29th, a lot of more would have left. A big reason for the looting was that the people who stayed were already low on food and they couldn't afford to buy any more before the storm. But I'm sure that if they had missed the payments on their brand-new Cadillacs for that month, they would've had enough left over for food.:sarcasm:

Another big reason why people stay during a storm is to take care of pets. Most shelters don't allow people to bring their pets and you can't take your pets with you on most transportation systems. There need to be more places where people can bring their pets with them or take them to be cared for during a storm.
