February 24th, 2011 1:08 pm ET .

When the House and Senate began their 10 day President's Day recess, they left without agreeing on a continuing resolution to fund the government after March 4th. When they arrive back in Washington D.C. they will have only a few days to come to an agreement or the government will not be authorized to continue to operate non-essential functions.

With the House and Senate still unable to agree on a budget for the rest of the fiscal year, it is looking increasingly likely that the government will need to shutdown. Some Tea Party activists are cheering for such an occurrence. Town halls with members of congress in Florida have seen many Americans standing up and saying "shut it down!" While this may be what the Tea Party wants, and those that understand what government does may also want a shut down to remind Americans why government is important, in the end a shutdown will hurt America. A shutdown will have major consequences for individuals, businesses and entire communities, if either party has any feelings of patriotism or at least general decency they will find a solution and keep the government functioning.

Individuals Will Be Affected By A Government Shutdown
