3. Oxycontin is an opioid. Opioids slow the digestive system. Opioids cause constipation.
Opioids also can trigger nausea not long after being taken. As a result of these three factors, opioids discourage the consumption of food at nearly any point in relation to administering the drug. If one eats a short time before dosing, they'll puke, which will either prompt a habitual user to avoid doing this or if they don't avoid it will at least prevent absorption of the food's nutrition. If one were to attempt to eat adequately to maintain weight several hours before dosing, the result would be a period of constipation while the drug wears off, thus discouraging that approach. If one were to try to eat adequately several hours after dosing, their digestive system has been slowed down and they would not be likely to feel hungry, and might even become sick if forcing food into an inactive stomach. The end result is that even a casual opioid user will be turned off of his feed for a good amount of time after using. Now imagine living for extended periods of time while abusing this drug? It's not a coincidence that very skinny models' looks were described with the term heroin chic.
