Subject: THE IRISH - SUCH CLEAR THINKERS

Leave it to the Irish to cut through the crap and make the whole issue crystal clear...
Thoughts from across the pond. . . .

An email from Ireland to the brethren in the States...a point to ponder despite your political affiliation:

'We, in Ireland, can't figure out why people are even bothering to hold an election in the United States

On one side, you have a pants wearing lawyer, married to a lawyer who can't keep his pants on, who just lost a long and heated primary against a lawyer who goes to the wrong church who is married to yet another lawyer who doesn't even like the country her husband wants to run.

Now...On the other side, you have a nice old war hero whose name starts with the appropriate 'Mc' terminology married to a good looking younger woman who owns a beer distributorship.

What in heaven's name are ye lads thinking over there in the colonies??

Reply:
The problem is that is not "What in heaven's name are ye lads thinking over there in the colonies?", but this is simply promoting more lies and hurting us all. Try this:

On the 1 hand you have a senile old man who graduated almost last in his class in the military and managed to get shot down several times, who spent time as a POW being tortured but STILL supports using the form of torture known as waterboarding, who came back from Vietnam and cheated on his disabled wife before leaving her and his three children and marrying a rich heiress 17 years his junior, obtaining a marriage license for his second marriage while he was still married to his first wife, who voted with the current President 95% of the time in the last 7 yrs (and don't forget that President has the lowest approval numbers of any president for decades due to his lying his way into foreign wars and leading us into a depression), and who own ten homes, valued at more than $13 million, including TWO swanky beach front condos in California while failing to pay taxes on one of those beach homes for the past four years and wants to increase tax cuts for the very rich.

On the other hand, you have a Senator under whom 90% of Americans would pay less taxes under his proposed tax plan, who has denounced racism and is not responsible for out of context remarks by anyone else, whose wife has worked hard to make her country better, who (as a state senator) proposed requiring that interrogations and confessions be videotaped and got it passed and signed by his state governor, who has been a leader in fighting for open and honest government including (again as a state senator) crafting and passing the first ethics and campaign finance law in 25 years in Illinois, who introduced S. 2566 which would expand the cooperative threat reduction concept to conventional weapons, who has worked to end violence against women, who has voted to increase veterans benefits (including for homelessness, tax cuts, ptsd help), who has worked extremely hard to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina rebuild their lives (http://thinkonthesethings.wordpress.com/2007/08/29/when-the-cameras-are-off-barack-obamas-hurricane-katrina-record), who believes GITMO should be closed and that Human Rights should be bigger than politics and works toward these goals.

Bonus questions:
Who has said on multiple occasions "I didn't really love America until I was deprived of her company"? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/19/watch-mccain-didnt-love-a_n_108191.html (McCain)
Can anyone name a single piece of legislation that Obama has proposed or bring up a policy position that has been negatively influenced in any way by his association with Reverend Wright? (Are none)
Have you actually LISTENED to Rev Wright's entire speech and hear what he actually says rather than a clip taken out of context? (I doubt it)
Who is the conservative Evangelical biographer of George W. Bush and Tom DeLay writing a rather positive book about? (Obama)
Who said to his wife"At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you c#nt"? (McCain)

So, who do you believe? The swiftboat liars who take quotes out of context, who use lies to try to smear a candidate? Or the candidate that is actually doing something to improve conditions for all but the extremely grossly rich? Are you seriously concerned about the penis of a former president or the color of one running for president now? Why?

Yes. I have a sense of humor. My income is dropping as people are having to cut back all over, gas and food costs are skyrocketing, my grown child is having difficulty finding work and is in danger of being drafted if the Iraq debacle continues or the Powers that Be actually do the insane act of bombing Iran. Those outweigh my ability to laugh at these rightwing lies. Nothing personal, as I consider you a good friend and a very kind and dear person, but please take us off your list for sending on such claptrap. Thank you.
