You will be getting mail and phone calls from Republican candidates. The most current list of voters is from the last Presidential campaign. I don't think there's much you can do about that unless you want to contact each and every campaign and organization that gets in touch with you. Even then, it'd be tricky to take your name of their lists.

People who registered as Independent in 2004 will get it from both sides.
