18. There is more than enough human tragedy ...

... to explain the instances of inattentive driver behavior, imho. Drivers are human ... and people who're suffering from the loss of job, the death or severe illness of a loved one, undergoing the stress of contracting an devastating illness themselves, and undergoing any of a plethora of life's traumatic experiences is far more than enough for me to assume, in the vast majority of instances, that distracted behavior on the highway can be attributed to such life circumstances.

I spent too many years yelling "Asshole!" It takes only a moment's reflection to recall times in my life that my own stresses undoubtedly resulted in behavior on the roads that are far from exemplary. So, if I mistakenly give a "free pass" to someone just innately inconsiderate and reckless, it's more than worth it to not let it get to me and not engage in the jump to judgment. Even Cheney/Bush supporters have tragedies. (Hell, just being one would be more than I could bear myself.)
