it does not freeze or hog system resources nearly as much as it does on my Linux desktop and coworker's Macs running OSX .

I think that it's mostly a matter of Adobe focusing on the largest slice of their install base it seems.

I saw a website recently that profiled the substantial improvements of the windows flash runtime,in terms of memory use, size and time in some benchmarks, release by release after adobe bought macromedia. I don't believe they made the same number of improvements on the other platform's flash players.

Also, frankly I've never felt that the Mac multitasked very well, honestly the UI always seems subject to random beach ball spinners, and I think that flash probably gets blamed for alot of the spinners on safari flash websites.

I'm sure if I were to spend $4000 on a desktop I could get a mac with flash that doesn't have waiting spinners.
