Meet the new blog, same as the old blog . . . due to technical difficulties with our equipment last night there was a "Best Of" Malloy last night. Hence, the duplicate blog enty for tonight.

But in addition to the below we'll cover the subpoenas Conyers issued to Gonzo demanding the Justice Dept. "Attorney-Gate" documents he's been hiding.

And we'll look at some Iraq developments as the pressure on our military to coninue this insane war is stretching the troops to the breaking point. Veterans groups are beginning to protest - loudly. Then there's Bush's latest effort to propagandize his illegal war in Iraq by searching for an overall Grand-Master "war on terror czar" to use as a tool to convince the American people he's making some kind of progress in the neverending terror wars. Problem is, they can't find anybody willing to take the job and be Bushie's latest cardboard-cutout fall guy. Gee, I wonder why?

But, I'm not going to play forever." Thus, on this morning's program, Imus let it be known the level at which he takes all of this seriously.

I'll let someone else decide the degree of toxic narcissism and self-righteous bullshit - not to mention the obvious clue to the sincerity in his mea culpa comments the last couple of days - present in that obnoxious statement: "I'm not going to play forever." But, the story is not really about Imus. He is an effect, not a cause. The real story is the ongoing slandering of women, Black women, and people of color in general that is institutionally rooted in the US (while the denigration of women continues to play a key part in the world's three major western religions) in a way that will probably never be overcome, the guilty wailing of lonely Don Imus to the contrary notwithstanding.

And, by the way, why stop with Imus if the goal is to whip ignorant white men who squat at the top of the food chain - whether that chain is media, government, corporate thievery, or education? How about Limbaugh? This smarmy thug has been subtly (and sometimes blatantly) pushing his copyrighted brand of soft-core racism for his entire broadcast career. And no list of racist broadcasters would be complete without syndicated radio whiner Neal Boortz whose sole function is to let white people know that Black people (and Latinos, and anyone not of northern European skin tones) really are lazy, freeloading, welfare cheats.

No, the issue is not these rich, fearful, whiney white men and their never-ending racist, sexist, and homophobic comments. They are paid huge sums to perform this fragmenting of society.The issue is a culture - ours - that not only tolerates this garbage, but also rewards it. The success of predatory capitalism depends on the success of the corporate/political class forever keeping the "proles," the workers, the drones, you and me, at each other's throats. Racism? Sexism? Homophobia? Fear of immigrants? Fear of "terrorism?" It all works to keep the rulers in power. Always has, probably always will.

But, forget Imus. The pressing issue today is have we discovered, finally, for once and for all, beyond a reasonable doubt, who is the father of Anna Nicole's baby?
