The Shoe Lady - like The Dude - abides.


There really is no debate: Condoleezza Rice is the worst Secretary of State in modern US history, possibly our entire history. (Worst in the sense of being totally ineffective, useless, a poseur. The actual worst in terms of global damage was, of course, John Foster Dulles.) Rice is once again doing photo ops in the Middle East, dashing from capital to capital as she accomplishes absolutely nothing.

A major part of her current ineffectiveness comes from the revelation that on orders from George Bush, she and the convicted felon (who is a deputy secretary of state for Middle Eastern affairs and well-known American Zionist) Elliott Abrams were entrusted with provoking a Palestinian civil war. (See the current issue of Vanity Fair for the complete, sordid story.) She even failed at that, which is a staggering comment on her uselessness given that she had the internationally known terrorist, Iran-Contra killer, and death-squad organizer as her wing man

All the players in the Middle East's ongoing tragedies are and were fully aware of the criminal activity of these two American "diplomats." Only the US public was, once again, out of the loop, lied to, deceived, and forced to pay the enormous cost of Bush's murderous adventures that stretch from Iran to Egypt.

And now, the Shoe Lady is once again having her picture taken with sad, lost, Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas. The photo of the two of them in today's NY Times shows an idiotically grinning Rice and a grim-faced Abbas. One wonders what Abbas is thinking, knowing as he does, that Rice, Abrams and Bush tried to cause more dead children, blown apart houses, random charred body parts, wounded civilians and utter devastation to his already bloodied and reeling population.

Abbas at first said flatly no to any further talks with an Israeli government that continues illegally to occupy the Palestinian territories. But, the Shoe Lady must have reminded Abbas of the destruction she and her attack dog Elliott are capable of perpetrating (anywhere: Iran, Nicaragua, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, El Salvador, Columbia, Venezuela, the list is enormous) and the extent to which that sinister fact has the full backing of all branches and both major political parties - and their current and future presidential nominees - in the US government. Abbas collapsed; he will return to "talks" with Israel.

Incredibly, Rice pushed Abbas' face in the mud just before she left for more "talks" in Brussels, Belgium, with her smarmy, infuriating comment, “I understand the difficulty of the current situation, Mr. President, but, we must keep our eye on what we're trying to achieve.”

And she said it with a twinkle in her eye.
