...appreciated nonetheless.

here in the states, my south indian family doesn't really do anything for diwali (other than the lakshmi puja, which you can read about in the wikipedia entry). i do remember that once when we visited our relatives in india when i was a little kid, i saw how much of a bigger deal it was there, with fireworks and new clothes and such (that was a big thing...all the kids got gifts of new clothes that day).

i live in an area with a large indian population, and i know they have some sort of diwali festival every year in my town, but our indian population is mostly made of recent immigrants, and having been born and raised in the u.s. i feel a little disconnected from all that. doesn't help that i'm an atheist, either.

not sure where i was going with this...pardon the rambling.
