31. I think you have to take into consideration what they've gotten away with
so far, and ask yourself, how did they do it?

We (the Democratic Party and all of its leaders and supporters) have not paid enough attention to 'how did they do it?'.

Our leaders, out of collusion, corruption or inattention and possibly fear. Rank and file out of powerlessness over party policy.

And, yes, I'm talking about...

DIEBOLD: Until recently, headed by Wally O'Dell, a Bush-Cheney campaign chair and major fundraiser (a Bush "Pioneer," right up there with Ken Lay), who promised in writing to "deliver Ohio's electoral votes to Bush-Cheney in 2004"; and

ES&S: A spinoff of Diebold (similar computer architecture), initially funded by rightwing billionaire Howard Ahmanson, who also gave one million dollars to the extremist 'christian' Chalcedon Foundation (which touts the death penalty for homosexuals, among other things). Diebold and ES&S have an incestuous relationship; they are run by two brothers, Bob and Todd Urosevich.

These are the people who "counted" 80% of the nation's votes in 2004, under a veil of corporate secrecy.

Also, SEQUOIA: The third major election theft industry player, which hired Republican Bill Jones, former Calif Secretary of State, and his chief aide, Alfie Charles, to peddle their machines--in an outstanding example of the highly corrupt practices that HAVA fosters-- "revolving door" employment, lavish lobbying, corporate secrecy, corporate lawyers writing our laws, and the heady power of multi-million dollar electronics contracts in government.

--------------------------

I woke up this morning to a column by my least favorite California political columnist who is saying that not only is Schwarzenegger going to swamp Angelides, but all the down ticket races are going Republican as well, including Diebold shill and Schwarzenegger appointee Bruce McPherson (as Sec of State) beating election reformer Deborah Bowen--a clear cut case of bad government vs. good government.

At this point in the campaign, we're talking (or rather, he's talking) about money and about what the polls and pundits are saying. Not about what Diebold HAS said (except indirectly, re: recent past history, the Recall election and CA-50 under Diebold, and also Kerry votes getting shaved in '04 and added to Bush's popular majority in Republican counties only, also under Diebold). But something I've noticed about Rove and the Rovian mode (which this columnist often exhibits--Dan Walters, Sacto Bee) is that they create pre-written narratives to be used as post-election "explanations" of what happened, when they know full well that what is going to happen will have been highly manipulated. So, apart from actual polls (which may or may not be manipulated), the ground work is being laid for the populace to accept the results of electronic voting machines and central tabulators, run of TRADE SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code, owned and controlled by Bushite corporations, and, in this case, overseen by Diebold shill Bruce McPherson, who has zero inclination for oversight and is a proven operative of the coverup of Diebold's criminal activities, and of the extreme insecurity and hackability of their machines and others.

So I am not in a good mood this morning. They have the capability to steal it, nationwide. We, in California, are the MOST vulnerable state to a rigged election, considering who's in charge. But these fuckers are controlling (s)elections in almost every state. They choose our candidates in the primaries and who wins in the general election. They can create whatever kind of Congress they want to--and if it has to include a few more Democrats this time, for appearances sake, it will. But they will either be Bushite Democrats (like those who voted for torture and suspension of habeas corpus the other week), or their votes won't count for much in the face of a Bushite and Bushite Democrat majority. And those of us who object to Bushite corporations "counting" all the votes in SECRET will be told, "What's your beef--the Democrats won, didn't they?" And that's a best-case scenario. Worst case, they just steal the whole thing again. What's to stop them?

And then the gropers and the child molesters and the master thieves and the torturers and the genocidal mass murderers can get on with business.

I do think we can get our country back. But it is not going to be easy.
