10. I got one of those test kits for water --
and dipped a test strip into some bottled water I had. As soon as it hit the water, it turned the brightest color to indicate presticides were present. I mean the VERY instant it touched the water it zoomed to the highest level.

The water was bottled by a soft drink company (I'll let you figure out which one). I called to let them know about the test strip but got zero response from them or the retailer. They finally talked to me after I assured them I wasn't going to sue them; that I just wanted to alert them to a problem. They offered me coupons for free product, which struck me as funny. I had just told them I found pesticides in their product, so why would I want more?

The reason I tested the water was because I was ill without an obvious cause over several months. I drank a lot of the bottled water and got suspicious something might be wrong with it, so tested it.

I later found out the same company sold the same brand water in India and had it pulled off the shelf there because of pesticides. They also ran into a problem in the UK that required them to remove product from stores, but I think in that case it was a cancer-causing ingredient that was something other than pesticides.

The company draws from water supplies where the water is bottled and blamed the contamination in India on the conditions there (run-off from fields). To me, they suggested that the US-bottled water I tested had picked up a pesticide from equipment in the bottling plant and they would "look into it." I never heard another word from them.

I haven't consumed bottle water since that episode.
