Are we ready for a female President in our country? [View All]

This may seem like a redundant question, but it is a serious one. This question came to mind this morning when my child, who has to do a report on one of our Presidents, asked, "why have all the Presidents been men?"

Gee, how to answer that one. My first thought was to say, "well, you see it's like this, our country has a history of bigotry and injustice towards minorities and women..." and then my second thought was to just say, "well, women haven't always had to the right to vote, much less run for office..." Hmm... pretty deep for a young child, especially in the early morning hours.

So, what I finally said was, "we'll discuss it after you get home from school today, but I do think it's time for us to have a woman as President." With that said I found myself questioning my own thoughts. I think a progressive woman with the ability to lead our nation would be the best thing this country has seen in a long time, but I honestly don't think the "laws of history" will allow it--at least not in this decade. (and this is not a Hillary question) Hell, we can't even get them to show "Commander-In--Chief" on a regular basis.

When do you think this country will be ready for a female President? I would love to see one in my life time.
