If somebody ran on an economic Bill of Rights that FDR envisioned, he probably could've blown away Bush by far larger margins just on economic platform alone by connecting with working class folks. Hell, Huey Long's economic platform would've allowed him to beat Bush to shit. As it stands, Gore himself admits he ran a shitty campaign. It was only after he ditched DLC advice that he tried to go back to his populist roots, but it was too late to avoid making the race close enough to steal.
