1. Nourous is a Zoroastrian festival of the New Year
Celebrated near the vernal equinox, if memory serves. The neatest part of the celebration is leaping over a fire pit to get rid of old thoughts and habits from the old year. Special food is eaten to ensure good fortune for the coming year.

It is celebrated mainly in Iran. I've been to two celebrations-they were timed to fit a weekend and so weren't on the exact date.
