3. I think you are on the right track
I've known gay folks that try to adopt or help kids in distress, than straight folks who might already have their hands full with their own children.
Frequently gay folks get mistreated and want to change that for the next generation.
We had that forefront when we decided to take Dora my now service dog, to give her a life as free of pain and want as we could.
My partner and I have discussed it at length.
I have a market list of health issues so a foster or adoption agency would not see us as a good risk and our financial situation is less than ideal.

We do dog rescue, my partner used to keep foster dogs. We adopt.
We currently have 4 dogs 2 were in very bad situations before and the other two were at risk of neglect or abuse, even death for one because she was not pure bred.
They have love, attention, enough food(wellness), toys, a big fenced yard, warm place(inside) and neighbor kids that are allowed to play with them
They are happy and well adjusted, we had our 'wedding' here with 40 strangers to them visiting for the ceremony.
There was not a problem..they were a little barky at first, but with in half an hour they were going around getting pets (and some folks were sneakin treats i suspect). I think that is pretty good since we live in the boonies and no more than one or two had ever visited out here before and no more than 2 at a time.

The reason I bring up the dogs is that if someone abuses an animal, they will eventually get around to people and children are so defenceless.
