Do you know you know about the Border Patrol’s enforcement strategy on the Olympic Peninsula? Or how tax dollars are being spent to militarize communities along borders south and north? What about the impact of all of this on local community members and their families, and how communities can respond? Join Bridges Not Walls for a hands-on workshop to learn strategies for monitoring and documenting I.C.E. (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and Border Patrol activity. Get informed about the situation on the border, in our local community, and on the Olympic Peninsula—an area experiencing increased arrests and detentions due to an expansion of Border Patrol/I.C.E. agents and facilities in the region.
Presenters: Benjamin Prado, Coordinator of the San Diego U.S./Mexico Border Program of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) and Pedro Sosa, Coordinator of the Portland Project Voice Program of the AFSC. These programs work to support the growth and development of immigrant-led organizations with the goal of bringing the voices and concerns of immigrant communities to policy debates at the local, state, and national level.
Bridges Not Walls is a coalition of community members from the South Sound region of Washington State who have come together to address issues of immigration in our community. We believe that immigrants, regardless of legal status, deserve to be treated with dignity. We work in solidarity with immigrant communities in our area to raise awareness about the impact of our broken immigration system on real people; and to promote human rights, economic rights, and civil rights for all people.
