My biggest beef with the Obama movement has always been that it is a concept crafted in a 50-50 world where post-partisan represented a compromise, not a capitulation.
If Obama really doesn't consider Republicans demons then it is a weakness that comes from becoming a senator without going through the House first. (And serving in a Dem state legislature where dealing with pugs was done from a position of strength)
Anyone who has served in the house knows that the pug party is pathological... not a bunch of Dick Lugar, John Warner types.
The Republican party should not be legitimized in any way going forward.
