One of the most important to me was his belief that we need to keep the dialogue about race going, rather than ignore it until we need to pander to black/white/Latino/&c voters. He made a mistake in using the Confederate flag as his visual, but the message he put out was unmistakably the right one--we can be the ones for poor and middle class southerners, and to do that talking about how the GOP uses race to divide us while Democrats should use economics and common ground to unite us was a great plan.
