5. He's campaigning hard.
6. He won't pick a right-wing collaborationist as a running mate.
7. He fights back.
8. He knows how to talk about budgetary inequities without ranting or being boring.

10. He had to campaign his way through the primaries rather than be "annointed."

But even without the above, he has the advantage of being the Democratic frontrunner this year, rather than in 2000. The mood of the time is rage, not complacency.
