The welcome table at a Bobby Jindal campaign event in Mandeville on Monday carried several varieties of bumper stickers, among them "Sportsmen for Jindal," the wishful-thinking "Democrats for Jindal," and "Farm Team for Jindal" in John Deere green-and-yellow.

There wasn't a controversial purple-and-gold, black-and-gold, or olive-and-blue sticker in sight -- that is, until one began mingling with the faithful Republicans eagerly awaiting a stump speech from their Next Great Hope for the Governor's Mansion.

Bill Dobson of Mandeville pulled a handful of the disputed bumper stickers from underneath his shirt, spanning the full range of Louisiana fan obsessions: "Tigers for Jindal," "Saints for Jindal," "Green Wave for Jindal." He gave two of the Tulane stickers to Mandeville Mayor Eddie Price, a Tulane graduate whose father was an All-American running back at the school.

The bumper stickers recently became a hot topic after LSU officials objected to the use of the school's color scheme and nickname to promote Jindal's political campaign. The New Orleans Saints and Tulane University also took issue with the use of their respective colors and nicknames, and the Jindal camp agreed to halt distribution of all three bumper stickers

BOSS: Why do conservative white folks in LA support a Indian-American (gasp!) former Hindu? The very same folks seem to be the ones all upset about Barak Obama's middle name (Hussein) and the fact that he lived in a Muslim country when he was a child and all upset about the Muslim congressman who took his oath of office on the Koran? Is it simply because he's a conservative Republican? Louisiana politics can be mighty strange.
