20. SAY WHAT???

O.k. Lemme get this straight. Libby gets duly convicted for a crime and the Repubs want him pardoned immediately? I thought that they were the so-called "law and order" party? The "rule of law" seemed SO important to them when Clinton lied under oath about Lewinsky which, as we all know, led to his impeachment in the House. GOPers apparently seem to think that they deserve to live under a different set of standards. In fact, it sounds like they want "special rights"! And WHAT is with these jurors who voted to CONVICT him saying that he should be pardoned? If they didn't think he deserved to be convicted, they should have voted against conviction. They must have ultimately felt that the facts warranted his conviction, right? It is their "duty" as jurors to determine guilt or innocence, right? If Libby and/or his allies feel that he was convicted unfairly, he has legal avenues to pursue (i.e. appeals) and his "friends" can help him out with his appeals but what makes him (and other "pardonees") so special and sympathetic that he deserves a pardon more than thousands upon thousands of people out there locked up for victimless crimes or, even more frightening, not even guilty AT ALL? Frankly, I believe that we, as a country, need to do away with allowing Presidents (or anybody) to pardon somebody. People need to be held accountable to the "rule of law" and if they are duly convicted of crimes, then they should be punished. A lot of people in our country seem to have forgotten this need for accountability (no thanks to Bush et. al) and look where it has gotten us.
