Here's what the press knew and when they knew it re: Iraq

In Feb 2002 Andrea Mitchell of NBC news was visiting the Redmond campus of MSNBC.com in WA state. During that visit she had a conversation with a relatively small number of MSNBC employees in which she told them the following (I'm paraphrasing, not quoting):

- The Bush admininstration would roll out war plans for Iraq in Aug of that year (she was off by a month, though they did make small mentions of it in Aug)

- Cheney pretty much runs things

- The press had been reduced to covering nothing but spin from the Bush WH. Asked why they didn't report that she said access would be cut off to reporters who suggested such a thing. The only way they could pull it off would be to band together and that probably wouldn't happen.

So, if you're really wondering why the press has ignored the DSM and other related info, it's because they knew about the same subjects discussed in the DSM long before any of you ever heard of the memo. It truly IS old news to them -- just not news they had the balls to report at that time.
