Tolstoy about a man who was promised all the land he could cover and rushed about trying to cover as much land as he could, until exhausted he fell dead. The person whom made the offer was Death, and the land he could cover was his grave, which Death promptly set about digging.

It was excellent and so subtle--very elegant and scholarly. Wow! A thing of beauty indeed.
