I watched this video
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x192324 and noticed that Chris Matthews has picked up on something many of us DUers have noticed for a while now: The Republicans Are Running From Their Party. Matthews noted that they have a hard time even saying Republican and they have no defense of their party. I too have noticed this. If you look at their ads, they attack Bush as much as Democrats have been for the last 7 years. For example, John Sununu has just put out an ad the claims he's a Washington Outsider who has consistently attacked Bush policy and brought Bush under control. I know, I let out a laugh when I first saw this ad. I have sent letter after letter to Senator Sununu (he's my senator after all) urging him to vote against the War, urging him to hold Bush accountable, urging him to support the environment and stem cell research. He has returned letter after letter with responses bathed in Right-Wing talking points. And he's just like the rest of the Republicans.
The problem is, they've been at War with the Democratic Party for the last 8 years, even when Democrats have tried to make peace with them. They've had their way and they shoved it down America's throat. They deregulated energy (Enron), they've deregulated the safeguards on the environment, they've deregulated companies from shipping jobs overseas going so far as to reward them with wealthy tax incentives to do so. The only people they've regulated are American citizens. They've taken away our Constitutional Rights, they've made it impossible for a citizen to get bankruptcy protection (as individuals, we now are forced to pay off any credit debts we have, no matter how long, and our homes are not safe from liquidation). They've made it harder and harder for individual citizens to vote (that is, unless you are a Republican). They believe in regulation alright, but only when it regulates individuals into sheep or when it saves their rich buddies companies from bankruptcy.
And now, when America has woken up and taken back enough power and won enough governorships in states in 2006 to make it more difficult for them to cheat their way out of this election, they realize they are on the wrong side of change. Change is coming alright, but it won't be good for the Republicans and they know it. Their only defense? To pretend like they were innocent bystanders or, laughably, were railing against the Bush Administration and Republicans all along. Nice try, but it isn't going to save them. For that to work, they are assuming that Americans are completely unaware of their situation now and where they were when the Republicans took power. There are just far too many Americans who have woken up. And we know that's true because the desperate attempt at the Republicans to appear as not Republicans.
But Americans Remember.
We Remember Republicans Singlehandedly Lost the War On Terror.
We Remember Republicans Singlehandedly Got Us Into Iraq.
We Remember Republicans Singlehandedly have allowed our great infrastructure to deteriorate into despotism that abandons the poor in wakes of disasters like Katrina.
We Remember Republicans Singlehandedly denied Americans better opportunities for Healthcare.
We Remember Republicans Singlehandedly fought increasing the Minimum Wage so that workers could afford to LIVE.
We Remember Republicans Singlehandedly got us into our current mortgage Crisis by allowing Banks to issue predatory loans.
We Remember Republicans Singlehandedly got us into our current economic Crisis by Feeding the Greed Of Wall Street.
We Remember Republicans Singlehandedly blocked attempts to work on Global Climate Change and denied its very existence in the face of science.
We Remember Republicans Singlehandedly got us into our Constitutional Crisis by turning a blind eye to Bush's power grab and then legalizing his crimes.
Yes, Republicans. America Remembers all too well what you have done to our country. And try as you might, Republicans, you cannot escape your legacy. In your panic meltdown, you can keep Bush away from your convention, forcing him to do a telecast. You can not use your party's name in the hopes America won't remember what you did. And even though the media might try to help you by replacing the (R) with a (D) by your name, Americans know who you are. As John McCain says, you have been made famous and we all know your names.
