I would add that another factor -- which also goes in Obama's favor -- is the question of which candidate tends to gain the most popularity over time. Hillary is well known and those who really oppose her are rarely going to be converted. While Obama, as a "new face" (remember that in the General Election, relative to the primaries, you have the people voting who did NOT vote in the primaries and don't involve themselves nearly as much in politics. They in turn will know HRC more at the start, and get to know Obama more over time. Obama has CLEARLY shown that he overall tends to gain in popularity over time.

This is all separate from who would be the better president. But that issue is also highly debatable -- again I'd say Obama, with a strong sense that a Clinton Democrat is a Clinton Democrat, and much of what both candidates say is really only meaningful (eg concern about not having unbridled international trade) on Obama's part. But again, the whole issue is highly speculative and debatable.
