28. I dispatched for a broker for a while...
And all of our driver were Indies. They may not work for a company, per se, but they do have to follow the DOT rules regarding log books, time off etc.. all of this is to be carried in the cab, and relinquished to the scalemaster (at the weigh stations along the freeway...) upon request. They also are generally required by the shippers/brokers to carry a minimum of $500,000 insurance.
