Because let's face it, you don't want your poor wife to be popping out kids until your wife turns 50 or so.

Birth Control pills are reliable however but not a good idea to take them for an extended length of time.

Diaphragms & condoms take the spontaneity out of sex

Vasectomies are a hell of alot less evasive to do than tying a woman's tubes (which requires cutting open the body).
