first time offenders who aren't celebrities, has-beens or otherwise. x(

I don't give a frack who the person is. You do this reckless dipshit and you're going in the slammer, with drivers' license revoked. Period. We need no tolerance for driving while drunk whatsoever.

Hell, I'd be inclined to start giving celebs HARSHER penalties as they might make an example. I mean, duh, giving harsh sentences to a bunch of no-names has done not a shred of good all these years, maybe reversing the field would do some good?!
