use her fame and fortune quite often to further good causes. Her whole African trip, while it may appear self-serving to those who don't like her, raised a lot of awareness about the problems there, and will in the long run bring in a lot of money and effort.

Bill Gates, while I personally abhor him, has promised that the vast majority of his wealth will be left to charity when he dies. I think that's more than reasonable. He's giving away billions now, and tens of billions more after he dies. He will leave his children comfortable, but not grossly rich.

I guess my issue is I know some very very rich people who are very very nice, decent people who give away a LOT. They earned what they have, they didn't steal it or inherit it. They give a lot of their time and money to very worthwhile causes - and I know because I've worked for non-profits that have received some of their largesse.

I think people get jealous of the wealthy and try to view anything they do in a negative light. There ARE plenty of rich assholes who deserve our scorn. I don't think Oprah is one of them.
