Holy smokes! That makes perfect sense and it's certainly visually true.
The other part of me says, that's as cockamamie as the Christo-fascists who used to say the peace symbol was a sign of the antichrist because it has a broken upside-down cross.
I suspect it's coincidence, but now that the meme is out of the bag, expect to start seeing much more blending of fishy messages on "troops" ribbons.
