5. Do them a favor

As hard as it is, be calm and do not make a big deal out of it when you leave them.

No crying, no long goodbyes, no cooing and reassuring. Sure, cry outside, sit in the parking lot and shake, but don't do it around them.

You are doing what's best for them, and if you are confident, they will be, too. They need you to be a strong pack leader.

Sorry to come across as a hard-ass. I'm a big softie about animals myself...It's better for them to keep the anxiety level low. Good luck, and remember that you're taking good care of them by making sure that they're safe.
