It's embarassing, if you look at the sordid history of much of this game and its players, that Rose is still barred because "he bet on baseball." To imagine baseball dancing atop a chair in horror, skirts around its knees, wailing "But he BET on the game! He BET! Oh the HORROR!"

Get a grip, baseball fans, and do some research; there are a lot of hall of famers who could've been jailed for other far more heinous crimes, yet still have made the cut. Rose has spent the better part of 2 decades in exile; he's paid his debt, and is due.
