3. Marijuana criminalization in the US has more to do with another industry
the cotton industry. The cotton industry is a very rich, very powerful industry that does not want to compete with hemp products for marketshare. Any move towards decriminalization of cannibas is seen as a threat to the cotton industry. Why else is hemp illegal to grow in the US but not to import or sell, despite the fact that it has absolutely NO intoxicating effect?

Because in the minds of our culture, marijuana and hemp plants are so intertwined, the cotton industry will not allow any progress on either front so they can keep their monopoly on plant fiber.
