7. The Selling of the Candidate, 2004
How are you going to counter sales objections if you're uninformed about what you're selling? You don't want the general election to be the first time that you heard some of these objections, do you? If you're going to convince people to support our candidate, there's no substitute for being familiar with all the pluses and minuses.

And ... don't underestimate the ability of the opposing party to dig up dirt on its own. Bush has a huge war chest to spend on digging things up. Remember the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy? It's still there.
