26. one thing about those kids with kites and the men in barber shops...
...they were only there to show that, in spite of all the negatives about Iraq, there were still normal people living there trying to have fun and live peaceful lives. Sure, it wasn't a complete picture of pre-invasion Iraq, it wasn't intended to be. As Michael Moore said, we've already seen the other side of the argument. We've all heard about Saddam's torture prisons and rape rooms and Weapons of Mass Destruction and the gassing of Halabja, more than once probably. And it's not the whole picture.

Iraq was not Afghanistan. Kids could still fly kites. Men could get haircuts and shaves. That was real footage. Hell, if you've been paying attention, you may have read about the shit that went down with soldiers poaching antelope at the Baghdad zoo and shooting the tiger after it mangled a soldier's arm -- but the point is, the Iraqis had zoos. That means families went there for recreation. Families.

The bombs and cruise missiles our newscasters were cheering weren't just killing Saddam's palace guards. Those lovely flashes of light that looked like fireworks to us were death blows to women and children and family pets.

It's a shame that so many Americans, even DUers, can't seem to wrap our minds around this simple concept.
