Obviously one of today's big stories is Rosie O'Donnell's marriage in San Francisco and her reaction to George Bush's 'vile and hateful comments' on gay marriages. Rosie, it now seems, has soured on a President about whom she once said "I have had nothing but accolades for the job he has done for this nation... I am in full support of the President." and "Honey, I love him now! He is our President. We are at war.". Rosie, no doubt would now refute these comments, in the light of her recent conversion, but here's what gets me. Rosie is upset at Bush ove gay marriage. She is upset over an issue that affects her. She doesn't seem to be upset over the war in Iraq, which she wholeheartedly supported, or the continual bleed of American jobs and money to the third world. She's concerned about herself. Something tells me Rosie hasn't changed one bit. Self interest is still self interest. When I hear Rosie comment on the Republican assassination of the American economy, or the clear and present threat to social security and pensions, then I'll be glad to welcome her on side, but for us on the Democratic side, we believe in something bigger than ourselves. Toby Keith has been calling himself a 'very conservative democrat' on the talk show circuit recently. I have news for you, Toby. There is no such thing. Here's the deal. I'll consider you a Democrat when you apologise to the Dixie Chicks for your obnoxious and nasty comments on their dissent, when you start speaking out for your supposed beliefs, when you start standing up for the average American worker rather than making dumb threats to people and countries who disagree with you. However, I think we both know you'll be out there shilling your ass for George W come election time. Your pronouncements are nothing more than an attempt to keep up with the people who buy your records who day by day are waking up to the gang of extremists who have kidnapped America's destiny. Your one concern is to keep up the sales for your own gain. Toby, you are a Republican.
As a final note, I notice some self-proclaimed Democrats are pushing the bi-partisan agenda. Dan Aykroyd and Sean Astin are the most outspoken. Guys, it's hard to be bi-partisan when one side doesn't give a shit. Just remember that, OK?
