I may be fooling myself but the more shrubbie talks about this issue the more he looks like the far right wing nut that he actually is. This issue is going to screw him. He had to come out strongly against gay marriage so his his fundie base wouldn't abandon him. Hence his support for a constitutional amendment.

Now that he has done that it should be pretty easy to say "however you may feel about gay marriage, isn't messing with the constitution just a little extreme? and then refocus the debate on economics, the war, bush's lies or any number of other issues that resonate more strongly with the majority of voices.

Don't get me wrong we need to fight bush on this, but the GOP is using this as a wedge issue to divide us by pulling away the socially conservative democrats. We need to keep the focus on bush and his many failures and short comings and not allow the pubs to frame the debate on their terms.
