Last time I checked we weren't quite at the totalitarian level, although give the current govt some time and I'm sure they'll organise something.

As someone who has survived the last 15 years as a registered/compulsory voter, I can't provide any evidence anecdotal or otherwise, that would lead me to make any connection between compulsory voting and tyranny (unless a tyrant gets elected, but thats different, and of course, so long as the voting is secret)

To me, having to vote every once in a while is a small price to pay for living here.
