1. Paleoconservative like Pat Buchanan (i.e. populist conservatives).

2. Nixonians: moderates on domestic economic policy, foreign policy based on pragmatism and not ideology

3. Fordians: conservatives on domestic policy who don't really give a shit about the Christian right and who are internationalists as far as foreign policy is concerned.

The 1976 Republican primary signified the end of the Republican Party. From then on, the neoconservatives and the Bible thumpers took over. Sure, Nixon might have been against bussing and Buchanan is pretty bigoted; but none of these old school Republicans are/were as disgusting as Bush, who doesn't have one good thing going for him.
