To repeat MY point: NOT one INCUMBENT has ever been that far ahead and has lost. This refutes what you have said.
And you use Dukakis as an example. He was not the president. That was a one-time 17% lead, right after the Democratic convention. Poppy Bush was Vice-president.
The polls turned immediately around to favor Bush during the Repuke convention- at least 3 months before the election. He pulled his Willie Horton and Boston Harbor garbage.
